An uplifting, endearing journey

Melissa_W's Reader Rating: See Detailed Ratings

I wasn't a "Dietgirl" reader (obsessive blog reading has come late to me) so I didn't encounter Aussie Shauna's alter-ego until recently when her book was featured with other diet/weight-loss memoirs. "The Amazing Adventures of Dietgirl" is essentially a collection of Dietgirl blog posts, in chronological order, as Shauna charts her journey back into life through her ongoing struggle with depression and obesity. Shauna writes quite well - she does have a journalism degree - and I found it very easy to empathize with Shauna as she chronicles her attempts to make permanent lifestyle changes and win the battle of the scales. She's got a lot of gumption - even if her sister Rhiannon had to kick her in the backside occasionally - and drive so it was nice to see that all her hard work paid off in the end. At the bottom right corner of the book is a little flip-book cartoon of "Dietgirl" - "Dietgirl" changes as Shauna does, blasting off at the end of the book.
